課程介紹
In this course students will read, discuss, and explore selected prose of various topics and styles in both written and video form. The selection covers widely in themes, such as humor, ethnicity, animals, and disability; and in prose patterns, such as biography, narration, description, and argumentation. Students will cultivate their sensitivity to the written and spoken words as well as increase their knowledge of the world.
 
In this course students will learn to understand the issues brought up in the selected prose readings, and at the same time appreciate the way these selections (including selected video) present an event, a place, an idea, or an argument, etc. Through extensive reading, intensive discussion, and response paper writing, students will improve their presentation skills as well as broaden their intellectual horizon.

Evaluation
1. 60% Teamwork+written term paper: Write a guided essay with no less than 600 words. Plagiarism is not allowed.
    Please hand in the essay in both paper (in-class submission) and digital form (upload to ilearning). For more      term paper requirements, refer to the paper sample in the document section.
2. 20% Close reading, attendance and participation.
3. 20% Easy quiz on iLearning.
 
Absence Policy
**For each absence, you should upload a make-up report to the make-up report section on iLearning. You may provide a textual analysis, or a summary of the text including your response/reflection. Note that plagiarism is not allowed.
**For every absence without make-up report, two points will be taken away from your final mark.
