(Eng.)
Students attending this course often possess different levels of Dynamics background; some already have a good understanding of the principles of engineering dynamics, but others have acquired little of such knowledge from their undergraduate studies. The main aim of the course is thus to provide a general grounding in the basic principles of structural dynamics and their applications to Earthquake Engineering. This course deals with the dynamic analysis of structural responses in civil and mechanical engineering due to time-varying loadings such as machine-, wind- or earthquake-induced excitations. Its contents include structural modeling (lumped- or distributed-parameter), loading description, and numerical method to solve the dynamic equations of motion to obtain structural responses. In general, the structural response to any dynamic loading is expressed in terms of the displacement of the structure. Thus, the solution represents the time history displacement response corresponding to a given loading history.
